I haven't discovered any new music in a while. Y'all have a pretty good idea of my tastes from the vids I post, so recommend something you think I'd like, either a band name or a video or an artist's website.

I'm jonesin' for da riddim. Help a guy out, k?

Before I ask:

Does it have to be an English? ^_-

Also: are any genres off limits?

Posted by [identity profile] chronicpaint.livejournal.com
Nope, I like music in other languages. And I'm open to all genres. Some I like less than others, but there's pretty much nothing I absolutely refuse to listen to

I like:

Christina Stürmer, seen here in Ich lebe (I live), unplugged

The Idan Raichel Project, seen here in Milim Yafot me'Ele (Words More Beautiful Than These

Rimi Natsukawa, seen here in Shima Uta

La Oreja de Van Gogh, seen here in Dulce Locura

Even if these aren't your cup of tea, I can suggest others; my tastes are all over the place ...

If you like a sort of hard rock eastern feel... Jeff Martin just launched a new band "The Armada". Otherwise, I recommend any by Glen Hansard. His stuff from the movie Once is fantastic.

Music seems to be on a few minds this morning. Try flipping on the radio to a station you don't usually listen to.

I never listen to the radio. I don't actually even own one any more.

Um, internet radio? I think you have internet access.

;-)

PS - I rarely listen to the radio either, but when I'm in the mood for unknown/different I pop it on and go to the left of the dial where the college and smaller stations are.

Yeah, I tend to listen only to the same radio stations in iTunes. I should start listening to different ones

I like bad music. Perhaps the Noisettes? This is from their last album, though they have a new one I haven't gotten yet:

"Scratch Your Name"

Posted by [identity profile] chronicpaint.livejournal.com
The name sounds vaguely familiar. I will check it out, thanks

Thanks to the trailer for Slumdog Millionaire I learned of a group called the Ting Tings. I've been enjoying their stuff, I highly suggest the track Great DJ.

Ooh, coolies. I so want to see that film. And not just because of my Indian guy fetish ;)

I will check out their music. They are another group I had heard of, but not actually heard

Can't suggest the movie enough. I understand its sound track is excellent as well if you like the Hindi trance fusion.

Heard great things about the movie.

I mostly LJ at work so I can't listen to anything here, so I'm not sure what you listen to. But I'll tell you what I have been listening to lately.

My Morning Jacket - Good old fashioned southern rooted rock and roll. Though they have expanded their sound in recent years. I recommend Okonokos, their double live CD.

Ida Maria - She is like a drunken Bjork. Hasn't released too much in the States yet, but she is starting to tour here now and more will follow.

She and Him - M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel. Kind of hard to explain. Just listen and see if you like them.

Rilo Kiley! (The lead singer, Jenny Lewis, was the girlfriend in "The Wizard" (remember that movie? It was basically a huge commercial for the Nintendo Power Glove...) :)

She has a haunting, lovely voice.

I'm jonesin' for da riddim
:blinks: Oh... rhythm. Right. Not what I was originally parsing that as.

Anyway, second the vote for pandora.com. And...
One Giant Leap
Don McGlashan
King Kapisi, if you want to try some rap/hiphop that isn't generic mass-produced "gangsta" shite.

I have One Giant Leap, the CD and the DVD. It's one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. So good.

I will check the others out too

Thought you might, but I figured it didn't hurt to put it on the list, just in case you had missed out. I actually haven't seen the DVD, but want to, obviously.

Do check out the others. Or, at least, one of Don McG's masterpieces (with a slightly trippy, but also touching, video. I sing this to a certain fussing little man when it's 3am and I want to kill him and then feel guilty for being a crap parent...

Also, let me add to my list: Dave Dobbyn. In particular "Beside You", which, strangely doesn't seem to be on YouTube, although there is a damn fine cover of it by the extremely tasty Anika Moa. Oh, you might find the bloke more tasty, but whatever.
