If you're like me and have oil/combination skin and want to use a scrub of some kind, skip the commercial stuff (which contains plastic beads that kill fish and are hell on the environment) and use baking soda

Plain old, straight from the box, baking soda. Mix it with a bit of water alone or water and a dab of your cleanser and gently massage. The grains are so small that it's super gentle, but totally removes dead skin cells leaves skin looking great!

It needs to be rinsed really well because it's so fine, but it's the best thing I've ever used.

No shit? Hmm, I'll pick up a box on the way home. I've got a patch on the side of my nose that just won't go away.

It works wonders at getting rid of the dead, dull skin cells

Works really well as shampoo too!

Not a big issue for me ;) But good for the more hirsute to know!

I have combination skin but very very thin and tender skin, apparently. I pretty much have to use cetafil or my face begins to peel off. I will try the baking soda thing though. Seems like something that exfoliating should only be done a few times a week and not every day, at least for me.

Yeah, I only use it once or twice a week, if that. Whenever I notice my skin getting rough and dull.

It's one of the things recommended by Paula Begoun (Don't Go To the Cosmetics Counter Without Me) who also recommends Cetaphil

Just massage gently ;)

Well aren't we the bastion of Health + Beauty advice??!!
You should totally have an info-mercial. Totally.
You could have, like, Clay Aiken and Kathy Griffin on, expousing the benefits of this miracle grit! And it's totally good for the planet and stuff! Huzzah!

:)

It is my way.
Besides, I swear by my Nivea facewash; doesn't dry me out and it smells delish.
I do, however, love me some baking soda toothpaste...nom nom nom!

*blush* Oh you...just stop... *giggle*

I've had my share of breakouts as a teen, and even into my 30's, but a lot of that had to do with climate changes (moving from humid to dry dry dry), stresses, poor diet, etc. I'll get the occassional zit now and then, but they don't last long! LOL
Both of my parents look a LOT younger than they really are, so I guess I'm blessed that way.

The other reason I like the baking soda is it's cheap ;)

I use oatmeal soap on my face, it's a round thick disk and does not cost much more than a couple of bucks or so and it lasts a long time, works great on my skin, I do get an oily nose but that's about it and it works great and does not dry out my skin like most soaps do and when you rinse it off, it does not leave you feeling like there is still soap on your skin, like Dove tends to do, although their body wash doesn't do that anymore, thankfully.

I use a good body wash and a puffy scrub to wash my body and it's fantastic. :-)

Plain mild soap on my body and Shopper's Drug Mart Life Brand Men's face wash. Then Neutrogena Moisture Oil free for combination skin (keeps me from getting too shiny)

My friend says cup of water and two tablespoons of baking soda can be used instead of shampoo. Pour it on dry hair, and massage it well. Rinse thoroughly with water, and then rinse with a cup of water mixed with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar

I knew that baking soda was good for a number of purposes - such as oral hygiene - but had never considered its use as a skin cleanser. I'm going to give it a try, virtually every other exfoliant I've tried is too harsh for my gentle, delicate skin ;-) Thanks for the advice!
