...in what could easily be one of the best episodes to date. Funny, exciting, great concept with ramifications to the whole Torchwood universe and one of the most shocking surprise endings.

I'm so glad they came back so strong in their second series. I enjoyed the first year, flawed as it was, because I saw the seeds of what it could be, and when they were good, they were very good. They've tightened up the storytelling and the concept, focusing on what the Whoniverse shows do so well: cool concepts, with real emotional resonance for those involved. It's always going to be the darkest of the three shows, but there's now real heart underneath. They've focused on what's good about the characters, dialing back on the general "character fuckedupness" that defined them all in the first series. They are still flawed, but there's a real sense that they are a team now, a group with real relationships to each other and though they are still somewhat over their heads, they are coping much better with what comes their way.

And it is so-o-o-o-o good to see Freema Agyeman as Martha again.
