Heard this on So You Think You Can Dance Canada tonight. Had to Google some lyrics to figure out who it was. But I love the bluesy, funky vibe of it. Real get down music

They are still in auditions, so it's the usual: some great ones, some embarrassing ones. Leah Miller is horrible.

I am SUCH a fan of Robert Randolph & the Family Band. I don't think you were on my flist in February '07, but that's when Robert Randolph & the Family Band MADE MY YEAR.

They played a concert at Harding University, my alma mater. Just so you know: dancing is against the rules at Harding; you can be thrown out, technically, for "entering a place of public dancing". Someone didn't do their homework on this band when they booked them for Harding, because Randolph dances all through his shows, and he encourages audience members to get up on the stage & dance too. During the course of the show, Randolph seemed more & more confused as to why no one was dancing, until he noticed that security was catching people on their way to the stage to prevent them from dancing in public. At some point (a friend who was there told me this part), he actually said from the stage "Rush the stage; they can't catch you all!" The audience still seemed timid until...

During the song "Shake Your Hips Babe", he seemed to look at a particular person & used body language to seemingly answer a question. As it turned out, the audience member was asking permission, & when it was granted, he jumped up onto the stage & proceeded to dance the most awesome White Boy Dance ever. Randolph grinned & started to point at other members of the audience, who all popped up on stage & started to dance as well. After about half a dozen of them, there was a huge rush of people. They DID rush the stage, & security COULDN'T catch them all, and the video was put on YouTube.

Those of us who are both Harding grads & quite liberal were on a high for WEEKS. I sent fanmail to RR & the Family Band saying how much I loved them for causing spontaneous dancing at Harding University. <33333

That story never fails to make me smile. I've downloaded those vids, & anytime I get frustrated with mainstream conservative Christianity & its attempt to pound the rest of us down, I watch these videos & I think "Rush the stage...they can't catch us all". ^_^
