Leaving home to go home
Aug. 4th, 2010 12:51 amWell, my vacation is ending. Last night in the house I grew up in. Flight is tomorrow night at 6:40. And I'm ready to be in my own bed again, surrounded by my own stuff. In my own city.
I saw old friends, some I've known more than 25 years. Spent a nice lazy weekend at the lake, reading. Finished Grave Goods by Ariana Franklin, read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson and All My Sins Remembered by Joe Haldeman. Started A Murderous Procession which is the most recent Ariana Franklin, but didn't get too far. We ate. We drank margaritas. We played Mah Jongg. And my dad and I had a really good talk in the car back to Moose Jaw today.
Did a photo shoot with an old friend who is a wickedly talented photographer. The new icon is from the shoot. Here's the full size:

There are some other good ones, that I'll sift through and post at some point, and I have them all in colour and B&W, which is cool. I think this might make a good headshot for publicity, don't you?? ;)
My sister is doing okay, though her partner, A's evil asshole satanspawn are at it again. Put A on the waiting list for some experimental surgery in Poland that won't even actually work for him and got him all excited about it, even though he can't even get out of bed himself, let alone across an ocean. She's bearing up as well as can be expected. We laughed and hugged as much as we could. Not much more I can do.
Also found a bunch of my old books at her place, that I left with her when I moved 12 years ago. (I hear Amy Pond's voice in my head saying "12 years!") and found several things I thought I had gotten rid of. She's going to box and ship them to me, cheap cheap. Will be fun digging through them, though I don't know where I'll put them.
Have my shoot with
bitterlawngnome on Saturday. Really looking forward to it. Have to spend a couple of days on a bit of a minor cleanse. Lots of salad and lean protein and water to see if I can shed some of the vacation bloat. Want to look my best ;)
I love visiting, but I love going home. And Toronto is my home now. I miss my streets and my friends. One last lunch tomorrow with two old friends from high school (two of the three that are even worth remembering) and then fly out.
Home again, home again, jiggity jig
